Contemporary Dance Company founded by Genevieve Bolla and Emilie Gratton, formerly from the Jeune Ballet du Québec
MONTREAL, QC (RUSHPRNEWS) February 14, 2008. – Evolucidanse, an upcoming contemporary dance company invites all members of the press to « Roots », a Montreal premiere on February 29 at 18h30, 1185 St-Mathieu (corner René-Lévesque), room M-100 at the Couvent des Sœurs Grises.
The evening will feature Evolucidanse first creation entitled « Roots » which was first presented at the London Live Arts Festival this past September. The piece was received to great acclaim both from the public and the press. John Teeter for CBC radio3 stated, “The highlight of the festival for me was the dance group Evolucidanse from Montreal who promote contemporary dance through choreographies that step outside today's dance norm.” Furthermore, James Reaney from the London Free Press, exclaimed, “Evolucidanse was a real delight.”
The founders of the company Genevieve Bolla and Emilie Gratton, both studied at the acclaimed École Supérieure de Ballet Contemporain de Montréal. For their first piece, « Roots » created by Genevieve Bolla, the company hired Lila-Mae Talbot and also Christian Ngabonziza (Ngabo), an electronic musician active in the Montreal music scene.
Evolucidanse was founded in 2007 by Genevieve Bolla and Emilie Gratton both graduates from the Superior School of Contemporary Ballet. The company's mission is to promote contemporary dance by creating pieces that will be out of the beaten track. Under the influence of classical dance, and with the inspiration of the Middle East culture, the company presents a rich and innovating choreographic philosophy. Explains Genevieve, “We also have the wish to explore and fuse the dancers' emotional and physical range to create truly personal work.”
The launch has been made possible with the support of Concordia University and the Jeune Ballet du Quebec’s Artistic Director, Mr. Didier Chirpaz. Chirpaz states, “Genevieve and Emilie represent the non-conformist spirit of contemporary dance, to create without taboo and great passion.” Concluding, Chirpaz further states,” These dancers have so much to contribute to the dance world and I am looking forward to follow their career.”
