ESPN 3D at the World Cup- Watch Sports Like Never Before



Hollywood, Calif. (RPRN) 06/14/10 — By Jacque Loewy  for Hollywood Today–

ESPN officially launched their 3D cable and satellite channel on Friday after announcing in January plans to broadcast the World Cup tournament in 3D. Over the past few months the sports network has been building up hype for 3D even demoing its effectiveness at this year’s USC vs. Ohio State game.

However, ratings for the channel may come down to a simple case of supply vs. demand. ESPN 3D is scheduled to air 25 matches throughout the tournament including the final on July 11th. Whether or not there will be an audience to see it is a different story. US World Cup viewership has increased steadily. In 2002, 70 million Americans watched on ESPN and ABC. Viewership increased to 78 million in 2006. However, with so few households sporting 3D TV’s (fewer than 1 million according to CEA) and very few service providers namely Direct TV and Comcast set to stream 3D/HD for the World Cup the question arises whether or not ESPN has outperformed itself. intentions and expectations with 3D, the networks executive vice president for content John Skipper commented “3D for us is about leadership on technology and about learning how to produce. Viewership will follow.” At the moment ESPN has a monopoly on 3D broadcasting and plans to cover 85 sporting events this year including the MLB Home run Derby next month.

For now, the only way to effectively use a 3D TV to its full potential is to watch big sporting events on a 3D channel with 3D glasses. Is this too tedious of a process to follow in order to watch a game? With the final match scheduled for July 11th and expected to exceed the 715 million people who watched in 2006, only time will tell if 3D lives up to the success of HD released 7 years ago by ESPN.

The seller of the jumpsuit who apparently works in the detention center and has access to Paris Hilton stated,” “She has complaining about everything! She demanded a female medium and they didn’t fit. These are the original pair of Paris Hilton orange jail shorts and jumpsuit! Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity!!!”

Los Angeles, CA (rushprnews) May 25, 2007-It seems that the storyline of “State Property” didn’t belong to Jay-Z and his long-time business partner Damon Dash after all. That is the claim made by Antonne Jones in a $15 million lawsuit filed in New York’s Manhattan Federal Court earlier this month.

Antonne Jones the author of novel “The Family: A Philadelphia Story” states that his book is the basis for the 2002 film. Jones and Jay-z were in negotiations when Jones had been offered by Jay-Z and Dash a mere $50,000for the rights of his book. Jones turned it down for being too low, much below from the requested amount of $500,000. He claimed that after his refusal, he never heard from the pair again.

According to Jones, the plot line for the movie is directly taken from his book, the hood, glory and money. He is seeking $15 million in damages from Carter, Dash and the movie’s distributors, Lions Gate.

The film took in over $2 million at the U.S. box office following its January 2002 release and was poorly received by critics and the public alike.

Los Angeles, CA (rushprnews) May 28, 2007- It appears that Lindsey Lohan is intent on following in the footsteps of her famous hotel heiress galpal Paris Hilton, and possibly room with her in  not-so-luxurious pad.  Back to her old tricks of bad girl gone badder, Lohan was arrested over the weekend following a car crash under the influence, even though her publicist claims that Lohan is attending regular AA meetings.

 Lohan crashed her mercedes SL-65 on Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles in the early hours of Saturday morning, when she was driving home in her luxury car, along with two other people, after partying at Los Angeles ”Les Deux” with friends. Thankfully no one was seriously injured.  Small amount of cocaine and other drugs were located in the car .

Lohan was not arrested but taken to the hospital for treatment of small injuries. Once treatment was received, she was then placed under arrest. According to police source, charges against her have been filed with the district attorney, and she could well face jail time, since this is not her first time charged with DUI.

Lohan has recently made headline and had a run-in with the law when caught driving under influence. Lohan is being sued by photographer Giovanni Arnold who alleged Lohan was driving the car that struck and injured him in New York in March.

In the lawsuit, filed in New York State Supreme Court, the photographer said the defendants (Lohan and her mother Dina Lohan) were “negligent, careless and reckless” with the vehicle, causing him personal injury and economic loss.

Blacksburg, VA (rushprnews) May 29, 2007- Virginia Tech confirmed by email to Rush PR News that George Michael donated to the college a piano that once belonged to John Lennon. The piano  is estimated at $2,9 million.

It is widely believed that Lennon composed ”Imagine” his most popular anti-war song, which became the anthem for a generation fighting to end the war in Viet-Nam, on this particular piano with Yoko Ono at his side. 

The gesture is largely a symbolic reminder to bring peace and healing on the site of the largest  murder in the U.S. history.  Virginia Tech was the scene of its deadliest campus assault when 33 people died after student Seung-Hui Cho went on a killing rampage.   Seun-Hui Cho, a mentally unstable student of Korean origin  also lost his life on that day.

Michael’s publicist said in a released statement, ” “George’s deepest wish is to imagine a world of peace, a world without violence”. The piano will be on display shortly. A definite campus location hasn’t been confirmed yet.
